The break occurred in the village of Briarcliff Manor around 5 a.m., Monday, Dec. 18 along Sleepy Hollow Road, leading to a disruption in water supply and pressure for residents along the roadway.
As of 8:30 a.m., officials with the Briarcliff Manor Public Works Department said crews, working in the downpours, have located the break and isolated it to Sleepy Hollow Road by redirecting water.
The department has been inundated with calls from residents waking up to find a trickle of water coming out of the faucets or brown water.
"In light of the ongoing situation, we urgently request all Briarcliff Manor residents and external water users to take immediate measures to conserve water," said Village Manager Josh Ringel.
Residents along Sleepy Hollow Road are being asked to:
- Limit the use of washing machines and dishwashers.
- Turn off any leaky faucets or toilets
- Take shorter showers and turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
Residents in the remainder of the village where water has been fully restored are being told to use cold water and let it run until it clears.
A boil water notice has not been issued -- yet.
"We will keep you updated on the progress of our efforts through various communication channels, including our website, Nixle message, and other outlets," Ringle said.
